March

John Lewis' comic on march is really inspirational. it starts on the day of the inauguration of Barack Obama. Two kids visit him in office to hear his story of how much of a journey he went through to get equal rights. John Lewis starts with talking about his chickens and how much he cared for them to go to school, even going against his family's wishes to have him help with the farm.he then tells the kids about the struggle of being black in a segregated country, having to travel up through the south without stopping in fear for their safety. while this is a good introduction to the events that lead to the march up in Washington the story doesn't really gain traction until we reach the sit ins at white only restaurants. I knew about how white patrons would beat up the protesters but what i didn't know was how long they would sit sometimes even passed the closing the very restaurant and the employees leaving. some of the owners even went out of their the lengths some of the restaurant owners would go to remove them. on one occasion, the employees gassed out the protesters with rat poison, which made me think of the concentration camps from the holocaust.

I was also surprised by the fact that not all Black citizens who wanted pursue the equal rights because of the pressure from politicians and the dangers it posed to the protesters.I was definitely absorbed in the story, that I went from reading at 11:45 to 1 am. the black ad white art is really good, I was never confused by the amount of characters in this story.
